The Quiet Helper of Yazd

A retelling for children, based on Bahá'í Chronicles.

In the city of Shíráz, a man named Mírzá Muhammad learned something wonderful. He learned about the Báb, and he believed with all his heart. He was one of the very first to believe — one of a small, special group called the Letters of the Living.

Then it was time to go home. Mírzá Muhammad set out from Shíráz and traveled all the way back to his own city, called Yazd. His heart was full. He had so much good news to share.

But there was a problem. In those days, it was not safe to tell people about the Báb. Some people were unkind and even cruel to those who believed. If Mírzá Muhammad stood up and announced what he knew, he could be in great danger.

So what did he do? He did not give up. He did not stop believing, not even a little. Instead, he kept his faith safe and quiet inside him — and he taught others in a gentle, careful way, a few at a time, where it was safe to speak.

He went on like that for the rest of his whole life. Quietly, faithfully, never loudly, he kept sharing the things he loved most.

Sometimes being brave does not look big and loud at all. Sometimes the bravest thing is to keep believing, and keep helping others quietly, even when it is hard. That is exactly what Mírzá Muhammad did.
