Privacy
Last updated: January 2025.
The short version
- We collect as little personal data as possible.
- We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
- We do not sell, share, or rent your information to anyone.
- You can use the entire site without giving us anything.
What gets stored on your device (cookies / localStorage)
- Your theme preference (light / dark / sepia / system)
- Your bookmarks and reading history
- Your audio playback position
- Your selected persona mode
- A cookie acknowledgment timestamp
These never leave your device unless you create an account and explicitly opt in to cross-device sync.
If you give us your email address (for newsletters)
- We use Resend to deliver email.
- Every email has an one-click unsubscribe link.
- We never share your email with anyone, ever.
- Email-only subscribers can request data deletion via a link in any email.
If you create an account
- We use Clerk for authentication. No passwords.
- You sign in via magic link, Google OAuth, or Apple OAuth.
- We store your bookmarks, reading history, journal notes, follows, and preferences.
- You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
Analytics
We use a privacy-respecting analytics service (Plausible — cookie-less by default) to understand which stories are most read. No personal information is collected. If we ever switch to cookie-based analytics, this page will be updated and the cookie notice will reflect that.
Donations
Donations are processed by Stripe. We see your name and email (used for receipts). Payment details (card numbers) go directly to Stripe; we never see them.
Audio files
Audio MP3s are served from Cloudflare R2. Your IP address is briefly handled by Cloudflare in order to deliver the file; Cloudflare may log this for security purposes.
