Remembering Parents After Prayer

When in Bahá'í history
Máh-Kú (today: Maku, Iran)
The Báb revealed the Persian Bayán during His imprisonment in the fortress of Máh-Kú in Ádhirbayján. Shoghi Effendi, in God Passes By, calls it "that monumental repository of the laws and precepts of the new Dispensation." It is divided into nine Váḥids (Unities) of nineteen chapters each, except the last, which has ten.
Among the excerpts from the Persian Bayán in Selections from the Writings of the Báb is this passage, from the sixteenth chapter of the eighth Váḥid, about what the believer should do after prayer:
It is seemly that the servant should, after each prayer, supplicate God to bestow mercy and forgiveness upon his parents. Thereupon God's call will be raised: 'Thousand upon thousand of what thou hast asked for thy parents shall be thy recompense!' Blessed is he who remembereth his parents when communing with God. There is, verily, no God but Him, the Mighty, the Well-Beloved.
The instruction joins the remembrance of parents to prayer itself. The Báb names two gifts to ask for them, mercy and forgiveness, and promises that the one who prays will receive "thousand upon thousand" of what he has asked for them.
A retelling based on Selections from the Writings of the Báb (excerpts from the Persian Bayán, VIII, 16). For the fuller account, see the original.
