The Nephew Who Was a Letter of the Living

When the Báb first began to teach, only a small handful of people in all the world had found Him yet. They were like the very first letters of a brand new story, and so they were given a special name: the Letters of the Living.

One of them was a young man named Mírzá Muhammad Báqir. He was the third person to become a Letter of the Living — think of that! Out of everyone on the whole earth, he was only the third.

Mírzá Muhammad Báqir had a famous uncle. His uncle was Mullá Husayn, one of the early believers and a brave leader who loved the Báb. So this young man was the nephew of a great hero — and he grew up to be brave and true, just like his uncle.

Later, the early believers gathered together at a place called Shaykh Tabarsí. It was a hard and dangerous time. His uncle Mullá Husayn was killed there, and another leader, Mírzá Muhammad Hasan, was hurt. With the bravest ones gone, someone had to be strong for everyone else. Some say it was Mírzá Muhammad Báqir who stepped forward and helped lead the believers when they needed him most.

He did not run away when things grew frightening. He stayed, and he kept his faith, and in the end he gave his very life at Shaykh Tabarsí for what he loved.

Mírzá Muhammad Báqir reminds us of something important. Being faithful is not only about happy days — it is about staying true even when it is hard, and even when it costs us something. A brave heart does not give up.
