Green Acre (today: Eliot, Maine, USA)
Sarah Farmer's vision of Green Acre as a place of peace and learning for all races and religions found its true purpose when she met 'Abdu'l-Bahá in 'Akká in 1900, and He visited Green Acre in 1912.
Fred Mortensen, a former street tough, rode under and on top of railway trains to reach Green Acre and meet ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, who, on hearing how he had come, kissed his cheeks and his dirty hat.
Sarah Farmer opened Green Acre in 1894 for the study of all religions. After she visited ‘Abdu’l-Bahá its courses turned towards the Bahá’í teachings, and when the Master came in 1912 He called it hallowed ground.
